How to Ace a Modeling Audition?

So, you’ve decided to start your modeling career, right? But, before you land a dream gig of yours, I think it’s best to prepare for your first audition. I mean, if you have been learning the craft under an affordable fashion institute kolkata, you probably already have some training regarding the same. However, I’m here to just help you remember the basics and maybe a bit more. So, let’s begin.

1: Do Your Homework 

Before you prepare for what to and what not to say, research the brand first. If it’s a commercial modeling job, how and what you are saying them would be different from a high-fashion runway gig. Remember, understanding what they might be looking for would help you tailor your approach. So, you can try checking out their past campaigns to get a feel for their style as well.

2: Dress the Part

First impressions will always matter. So, you should look for a clean, natural look. You can go for a plain tank-top and pair it up with skinny jeans and heels. However, for men, jeans and a fitted tee would look great.Try avoiding heavy makeup though - it’s time to show your natural beauty.

3: Master Your Walk and Poses

If you’re going for a runway audition, your walk is going to be everything. So, try to keep a straight posture, take confident strides while walking, and don’t forget to make your core work. However, if you are auditioning for a print shoot, it’d be best posing in front of a mirror. You can experiment with different expressions, angles, and body movements too.

4: Carry Whatever You Need

As you are going for an audition, bring a basic modeling kit to your audition -
  • Portfolio or comp card (digital and physical copies)
  • A pair of heels (if needed)
  • Minimal makeup for a little bit of touch-up
  • A bottle of water
  • A plain white or black outfit (if the agency is asking for outfit changes)

If this is your first time auditioning to be a model, I’d hate to break the news - but be prepared to get rejected. Just do your part - be professional, answer confidently, and stay professional. Whatever happens after that, it’s not in your control. So, don’t think too much about it and focus on yourself.
